Cashmere is a luxurious and soft fiber obtained from the undercoat of cashmere goats. These goats are primarily found in regions with cold climates, such as Mongolia, China, and Nepal. Renowned for its exceptional warmth and silky texture, it's 3x more insulating than sheep's wool while being remarkably lightweight.
The process of obtaining cashmere involves combing or shearing the goats during their molting season, usually in the spring. The fine undercoat fibers are then separated from the coarser outer hairs, cleaned, and spun into yarn.
Cashmere garments are prized for their comfort and elegance, but they also require special care to maintain their quality. Hand washing or dry cleaning is typically recommended to keep cashmere items looking their best.
Key Characteristics:
- Unrivaled Softness - Finer fibers than regular wool (14-19 microns)
- Lightweight Warmth - Traps heat without bulk
- Breathable - Regulates body temperature in all seasons
- Durable - Long-lasting with proper care
- Rare - Each goat produces only ~150g/year
Premium Uses:
- Luxury sweaters & cardigans
- Scarves, gloves, and winter accessories
- High-end blankets and loungewear
Why It's Special?
Cashmere's scarcity and labor-intensive harvesting process (combing, not shearing) make it one of the world's most coveted natural fibers - a symbol of understated luxury.
